What is It? Who Made It? And Why?
The Crayon Initiative is an organization with the main objective of donating recycled crayons to hospitals. This organization was founded by Bryan Ware in 2011. One day Bryan was curious about where crayons go in restaurants after being used.
After some asking around, Bryan discovered that they were thrown out without any second life. Bryan wanted to help this epidemic that no one else was helping much, so he founded the Crayon Initiative.

How Do They Recycle Crayons?
They recycle crayons by collecting crayons donated to them from schools, people, family, etc. When they receive these crayons they organize them into colors, and then are melted down to form brand new crayons for children in hospitals everywhere.
Why Should YOU Care?
60,000,000 (60 Million) crayons are discarded into land fills annually. These crayons here do not help the environment and can take 100's of years to biodegrade. The Crayon Initiative solves this issue by taking these otherwise useless crayons and giving them an entirely new life. After they remelt these crayons into new ones they donate them to hospitals where they can be used by the children staying there. These crayons provide happy memories for kids during very tough times in their lives.
How To Help?
Students at Kittatinny can help our children and landfills by donating any crayons that are no longer in use, or broken to our crayon boxes located in each homeroom classroom. The classroom that donates the most amount of crayons will receive a prize! Hurry though, this starts March 1st, lasting until March 15th.
